North East Contact Centre Awards announces Charity Partner of the Year

The North East Contact Centre Awards is proud to announce Business Beats Cancer North East, part of Cancer Research UK, as our Charity Partner of the Year.

This partnership reflects something that will resonate deeply across our industry. 1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime. It is a reality that touches many colleagues, friends and families across the North East contact centre community.

By supporting Business Beats Cancer North East, we want to bring the industry together to make a meaningful difference. Together, we will raise vital funds to support research, improve treatments and create hope for those impacted by cancer. Every penny raised stays right here in the North East, funding life-changing work in our region.

Why this matters to our community

This is a cause that is close to the hearts of many involved in the NECCA programme.

Marc Gordon, Founder of Fresh Start Events and organiser of the North East Contact Centre Awards, said:

“Having experienced cancer personally, I know first-hand the impact it has, not just on individuals but on families and wider communities. Through NECCA, we have the platform to bring the contact centre community together and use that collective strength to raise funds, build awareness and support life-changing work here in the North East.”

Julie Mordue, Associate Director of Marketing and Partnerships at Greenbean, a well recognised figure in the North East contact centre community and a board member of Business Beats Cancer North East, said:

“My support for this cause is deeply personal. I lost my mam to cancer nearly 30 years ago, and in the last three years my brother has faced cancer twice. Since joining the board, we have also learned that his cancer has returned.

As he begins the fight of his life, it has made me even more determined to use my network and relationships within the contact centre community to help fund the vital research happening here in our region.

The North East contact centre community is known for its collaboration and support for one another. Through this partnership, we have a real opportunity to bring people together, raise vital funds, support kinder treatments and, ultimately, give hope to families facing cancer.”

Dave Green, Managing Director of TP, one of the region’s largest contact centre employers, and a board member of Business Beats Cancer North East, added:

“In our second year of supporting Business Beats Cancer North East, we have seen first-hand the impact the contact centre community can make when it comes together. Last year alone, we raised significant funds and contributed hundreds of volunteering hours to support this incredible cause.

While Cancer Research UK is the largest and most recognised cancer research charity in the UK, what makes Business Beats Cancer North East so powerful is that every penny raised stays right here in our region, funding vital, life-saving research in our hospitals and universities.

For me, visiting the cancer diagnostic research centre at Newcastle University was a real turning point. Seeing the work being done up close brings home just how important this support is.

We now have a fantastic opportunity to unite the North East contact centre industry behind a shared cause. Every conversation, every event and every initiative can help raise vital funds and make a lasting difference across our region.”

How your contact centre can get involved

Over the coming months, we will be launching a series of fundraising initiatives designed to bring the North East contact centre community together.

From the NECCA Big Bake Off to a contact centre football tournament, there are already some exciting plans in place. But this is just the beginning.

We want this to be a true community effort. Whether it is team challenges, fundraising events or creative campaigns within your own contact centre, there are many ways to get involved and make an impact.

If you would like to support Business Beats Cancer North East, take part in upcoming activities or share your own ideas, we would love to hear from you. Please reach out to Julie Mordue or Dave Green to start the conversation.

Together, we can bring the North East contact centre community closer, raise vital funds and make a real difference in the fight against cancer.
